We couldn't get the A/C to come on or the instruments on the dash to work while the car was running. I pulled it up to the front door of the dealership and told the sales guy "this thing has issues". I put it in gear and the door ajar came back on. I opened and shut all the doors and the door ajar went off. It told me a door was ajar and that tire pressure was low. When I started it all the warning lights on the dash came on and stayed on but the guages remained unlit and didn't move. The sales guy told me to pull it up to the front while he went to get a tag.

Pressed the unlock on the fob and all the doors unlocked except the driver door. While looking at cars before buying the Flex I test drove a used 2009 Lincoln MKS with 1400mi. I love it, my husband thinks it looks like a hearse, but we both like the inside. (After rebates and in San Antonio, anyway.) The Flex is much better equipped for the price than the Odyssey, Sienna, Highlander, Acadia/Traverse, or Pilot. The Odyssey EX-L w/RES's invoice is $3K more than I'm paying for the Flex SEL FWD with convenience pkg, 40/40 power flip 2nd row with console, white roof, and SYNC. It has a sporty feel (yes, really does) but the Flex has more secure braking feel and a softer, more luxurious ride, more toys, and a MUCH quieter cabin, with about the same amount of get-up-and-go. My Odyssey has rather cheap-feeling plastic parts with glaring mis-alignment in the glove-box. I loved the conveniences of my van, but must say the Flex's interior and fit/finish are much nicer.

but I may ask them to update the computer just to be safe. Hopefully this one will not have this bug. I hope Ford jumps on this fix and recalls units already bought to take care of this.ĭespite this, I so love the car that I'm still buying one, just a different one.

This is assuming you react quickly and half-expect the problem. Enough time to get hit pulling into traffic. but wow, is it a dangerous problem! It takes a minute to shift to neutral, crank it up, shift back to drive.

Apparently this is an electronic issue and will hopefully be a simple software fix. I'm 5' 3" and it really doesn't get in my way, and why would the radio/accessory power die? I can take the key OUT while driving and the radio stays on (why can you even do that? Shouldn't it be locked in when the car is moving? My Hondas do the same thing.). The salesperson thought I might have accidentally hit the huge plastic tag hanging off the key. Again, it restarted like nothing happened.

A/C was off, security light on the instrument panel was blinking. Second time I was backing out of my driveway and it died, but this time the radio stayed on (like it does when you turn it off before opening the door - retained accessory power). all dash/warning lights, A/C, radio, and of course the engine. The first time, car was in drive pulling forward out of a parking space. The first day I had it it died twice while driving: I have been test driving a 2009 Flex SEL demo with 1400 miles on it for the past 2 days. Any ideas on what the problem could be?Įdit - I should mention that we don't even have 2,000 miles on this vehicle yet. Has anybody else heard of this problem? I saw somebody on another board mentioning this problem and that Ford did a PCM flash to fix it, but it was too soon to tell if it worked because this is a very intermittent/nonreplicable problem. She said she won't drive it on the highway with the kids until Ford can tell her that they have fixed what is wrong. I hope they can find something because this has really shaken my wife's confidence in the car. I took it to the dealer first thing this morning. I told her to put it into park and restart the car - she did and everything worked fine. I was out of town on business and she called me very upset. This could have been very dangerous had it happened on the highway. She didn't notice that the engine had stopped at first since she was only driving 25, but was more concerned with the sudden loss of power steering and power brakes (my wife is fairly petite, so no power steering was essentially no steering). My wife was driving through our neighborhood yesterday and the Flex just died.
